Dill leaves Akki Roti ( Rice Roti)

Akki roti or rice roti is a very famous breakfast dish in Karnataka. They taste best when had hot. My mom makes yummy akki rotis with variations of vegetables every time.
I miss those days, just sitting in the kitchen on a saturday morning, talking to mom and having these nutritious rotis hot hot from the kadai .

So here is a variation of this akki roti made with fresh dill leaves.

Dill is one of the world's healthiest herbs. It has numerous medical benefits. It is rich in anti oxidants, has helped in controlling blood cholestrol levels, rich in vital viamins like vitamin A,riboflavin, folic acid and vitamin C.I have just listed a few health benefits,We should include this amazing herb in our cooking as often as possible.Dill can be added to give that tangy edge to pickles and in salad dressings as well.

Here is a variety of Rice roti made with fresh dill leaves.

Rice Flour - 2 cups
Onion 1/2 chopped finely
Dill leaves- 1/2 bunch chopped finely
Jeera - 2tsp
Salt as needed
Green chillies - 3 to 4 finely chopped
Curry leaves- a few
hing - a pinch

In a bowl add all of the above and knead it to a smooth dough by adding water.
The dough should neither be watery nor too tight, just soft enough to pat it with your fingers.

Take a non stick skillet , smear a 1/2 tsp of oil on the inside. Take a ball of the dough and place it at the center, pat it with your fingers as thin as possible and spread it evenly. Now spread another 1/2 tsp of oil on it.
Cover the skillet and cook on medium heat. After half a minute remove the lid, and let it become crisp.
Take it off from the skillet and repeat the same after cooling the skillet.
Enjoy the akki roti while its hot with some chutney.

Cooling the skillet

Keep the skillet under running cold water inverted, do not wet the inside, if the outer part is cool, you can easily pat the dough on the inside next time.

  1. It's very delicious. Usually I add grated veggies too like bottleguard, cabbage, methi leaves and bit rice to make rotis soft.
