Oats Idli

For the past few years Oats has gained a lot of popularity mainly because of its health benefits. Almost everyone starts their day with oats porridge. There are many fun ways to include oats in our daily menu especially for kids who hate oats porridge.

I leant this recipe a couple of years back from a tv channel, once I made it at home it was an instant success.Ever since we haven't gone back,it's been on our weekly menu and everyone in my family loves the taste.

I have given out this recipe umpteeen times but here is the written version of it

Yeilds 8 idlis

Oats 1/2 cup
Sooji 1/4 cup
Yogurt 1/2 cup
Water 1/4 cup
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Grated carrot - 2 tablespoon
Green Chillies 2 finely chopped
Curry leaves -few
Coriander- leaves few finley chopped
Baking Soda a pinch
Oil 1tsp
Salt as needed

Heat a small kadai and dry roast the oats on a medium flame for about 5 mins. Be careful not to burn it. Cool it and grind it to a coarse powder.

In the same kadai dry roast rava for a couple of minutes till a nice aroma arises.
Roast some cumin seeds in oil and keep aside.

In a bowl add powdered oats, rava, green chillies, curry leaves, corianfer leaves, grated carrot and salt. Mix well. Now add yogurt and water. I prefer using home made yogurt instead of the store bought one, it gives a good taste.
Now add roasted cumin and baking soda. Mix well and set aside for 10 mins.

Now grease idli plates and steam the batter on them for about 10 mins.

Enjoy these nutritious idlis with any chutney or chutney powder.
